Comet Shoemaker-Levy Collision with Jupiter

clrbar.gif

This image is an artist's rendition showing the collision of comet Fragment Q with Jupiter from the viewing perspective of Ulysses. Since Ulysses does not carry a camera, it will not be taking any images of the event. The image is comprised of actual Jupiter images taken by Voyager 2 in 1979, and were applied to a sphere and rotated to the proper view.

This image is courtesy of Dave Seal and Paul Chodas of JPL.
