Preregistration
This conference is open to all interested people. Registration is open until Friday, August 5.
The July 1994 collisions of fragments of comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 with the planet Jupiter are a once-in-a-lifetime event and an extraordinary scientific opportunity. The explosion in knowledge about asteroids is highlighted by ground-based radar images and the Galileo spacecrafts first-ever, close-up pictures of asteroids. Predictions of meteor storms and discoveries of the remains of the impact that might have led to the extinction of the dinosaurs remind us that Earth is actively involved with comets and asteroids. These events emphasize questions about the formation of the solar system and the impact, both literal and figurative, on life on Earth.
In view of the timeliness of these events, the NASA Education Division, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) Public Education Office and the JPL Public Services Office are hosting the Comets, Asteroids and Meteors Educators Conference. Held in Pasadena, California, Friday, August 12 to Sunday, August 14, the conference is a unique opportunity for science educators to broaden their professional horizons.
