Scientists at this observatory in Arizona will obtain visible-light images, using charged-coupled devices (CCDs), of all faces of Jupiter immediately before encounters, record the flashes produced by incoming fireballs as reflected off Jupiter's larger moons and document changes in the planet's appearance. This is part of a group effort that is deploying portable, high-speed CCD systems to four sites around the globe: Australia; Cerro Tololo, Chile; Mauna Kea, Hawaii; and Reunion Island.
