MSSSO Image of Fragment G Impact

This image were obtained on the Australian National University 2.3 m telescope at Siding Spring Observatory near Coonabarabran, Australia, using the CASPIR near-infrared array camera. The camera uses a 256x256 InSb detector manufactured by the Santa Barbara Research Center. The observations were made with a scale of 0.25"/pixel. North is up and east to the left in all images.

An immense wave developed around the impact site. This is shown in narrow band images obtained in the 3 - 5 micron region approximately 80 min after the impact. The details of this image is listed below.
