APO Post-Impact Images of Jupiter

These images of Jupiter were taken on 7 February 1995 between 12:23 and 12:36 UT using the Astrophysical Research Consortium's 3.5 meter telescope at Apache Point, New Mexico. GRIM II, a HgCdTe grism infrared imager, was used to image the planet in a variety of narrow-band filters. The image scale is 0.238 arcsec/pixel. Images 1, 2, and 3 were taken through filters centered at 1.99 um (1%), 2.122 um (1%), and 2.36 um (4%). The System III central meridian longitudes of these three images are 176, 174, and 169 degrees, respectively. Ejecta from the comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 impacts is still evident nearly seven months after the impacts in the pressure-induced H2 absorption band (2.122 um) and the CH4 absorption band (2.36 um), though the material is now barely discernable in the pseudo-continuum image at 1.99 um.
