This image of Jupiter was taken with the NSFCAM infrared camera at the NASA Infrared Telescope Facility on Mauna Kea at 4:53 UT on 15 September 1994, nearly two months after the start of the comet impacts. Wavelength is 2.30 microns, in a CH4 absorption band. The impact sites are still very conspicuous, the brightest features on the planet at this wavelength, but have merged into a fairly continuous ribbon around the planet at the impact latitude, with individual impact sites still visible as bright condensations along the ribbon. System III central longitude is 56 degrees in this image, and the bright condensations to the right of the central meridian are probably the remains of the R, G/D/S, and L impact sites, though definite identification will require correlation with earlier images.
