This spectrum was taken only 20 minutes after the plume associate with impact A came into view and still shows that the plume material is some 20 % brighter than the normal UV reflectance of Jupiter. It faded very fast. The different colors associated indicate brightness. The bright (yellow) portion of the spectrum is because of the steep spectral slope of the cool reflected sunlight. New absorption features are present at 176 and 178 nm. At 181 nm the presence of an emission feature possibly associated with atomic sulfur released in the impact is suggested.
