Jupiter: Two Days to First Impact

gif>eso7.gif

Colour Images of Jupiter, July 14th 1994

This image was constructed from three images of the planet made with the Bochum 60cm telescope on La Silla. They were combined to yield a "true colour" view of Jupiter. The image shows the shadow of Europa on the disc.

The observers were Carsenty and Mottola and they were using a DLR CCD imaging system. Each image is a composite of about 5 one second exposures. Three near-IR filters were used, centred at 727nm,750nm and 893nm respectively so the colour is not really "true".
