RPS: Radioisotope Power Systems
Missions

Radioisotope power systems can provide the energy needed by robotic explorers to reach incredibly distant or otherwise extreme environments. This powerful capability enables long-lived missions to explore destinations across the solar system where solar power is impractical or impossible, allowing for amazing scientific discoveries that could not otherwise be achieved.

These missions have included some of the greatest success stories in the history of the U.S. space program.
