This image of Iapetus was taken on Dec. 31, 2004. The spacecraft flew within about 123,000 kilometers (76,400 miles) of the icy moon. The image is one of several uploaded into the Cassini Raw Image Gallery after the flyby.

This image has not been validated or calibrated. A validated/calibrated image will be archived with the NASA Planetary Data System in 2005. See a larger version of this image.
