Cassini Significant Event Report

For Week Ending 09/10/99

Spacecraft Status:

The most recent spacecraft status is from the Deep Space Newtork (DSN) tracking
pass on Thursday, 09/09, over the Canberra tracking station. The Cassini
spacecraft is in an excellent state of health and is operating normally. The speed of the spacecraft can be viewed on the "Where is Cassini Now?" web page (http://saturn.jpl.nasa.gov/operations/present-position.cfm)

On Saturday, 09/04, the C15 background sequence completed execution on
board the spacecraft.

On Sunday, 09/05, the C16 background sequence began execution.

On Monday, 09/06, the High Gain Antenna (HGA) science sequence began execution.

Upcoming events for the period of 09/10 - 09/16:

CDA Flight Software load and checkout on 09/13, CAPS, CDA, MAG, MIMI, RPWS,
and UVIS power-off, Probe checkout, and MAG and CDA power-on on 09/14, HGA
Sunpoint Maneuver, switch to Low Gain Antenna 1, and Flight Software Partition
Maintenance on 09/15, and start of Periodic Engineering Maintenance on 09/16.

Cassini will begin orbiting Saturn on July 1, 2004, and release its piggybacked Huygens probe about six months later for descent through the thick atmosphere of the moon Titan. Cassini-Huygens is a cooperative mission of NASA, the European Space Agency and the Italian Space Agency. JPL, a division of the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, manages the mission for NASA's Office of Space Science, Washington, D.C.
