Cassini Significant Event Report

For Week Ending 07/23/99

Spacecraft Status:

The most recent spacecraft status is from the Deep Space Network (DSN) tracking
pass on Thursday, 07/22, over the Canberra tracking station. The Cassini
spacecraft is in an excellent state of health and is operating normally. The speed of the spacecraft can be viewed on the "Where is Cassini Now?" web page (http://saturn.jpl.nasa.gov/operations/present-position.cfm)

On Friday, 07/16, Attitude and Articulation Control Subsystem (AACS) parameters
were updated in preparation for Trajectory Correction Maneuver 10 (TCM-10).

On Sunday, 07/18, the TCM-10 sequence was uplinked to the Spacecraft and
began execution.

On Monday, 07/19, TCM-10 was completed with flawless performance from all
subsystems.

Upcoming events for the period of 07/23 - 07/29 include:

Cosmic Dust Analyzer (CDA) Instrument powered off on 07/26, Periodic Instrument
Maintenance and an Solid State Recorder (SSR) Pointer Reset on 07/27,
update of AACS parameters in preparation for TCM-11 and Flight Software partition
maintenance on 07/29.

Cassini will begin orbiting Saturn on July 1, 2004, and release its piggybacked Huygens probe about six months later for descent through the thick atmosphere of the moon Titan. Cassini-Huygens is a cooperative mission of NASA, the European Space Agency and the Italian Space Agency. JPL, a division of the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, manages the mission for NASA's Office of Space Science, Washington, D.C.
