Cassini Significant Event Report

For Week Ending 06/18/99


Spacecraft Status:


The most recent spacecraft status is from the DSN tracking pass on
Thursday, 06/17, over the Canberra tracking station. The Cassini
spacecraft is in an excellent state of health and is operating normally. The speed of the spacecraft can be viewed on the "Where is Cassini Now?" web page (http://saturn.jpl.nasa.gov/operations/present-position.cfm)


On Monday, 06/14, a real-time command was sent to the Spacecraft to change
the Command Loss Timer value to 3 days. This was followed by the BAIL and
Engine Gimbal Actuator portions of Periodic Engineering Maintenance.


Solid State Recorder (SSR-B) record and playback pointers were reset on
Tuesday, 06/15.


On Wednesday, 06/16, an update of the Active Spacecraft Vector with a
polynomial and a High Water Mark clear were performed.

Upcoming events:


Activities scheduled for the week of 06/18 - 06/24 include the Reaction
Wheel Assembly portion of Periodic Engineering Maintenance, and uplink of
the Venus 2 Science Mini-Sequence on 06/19, SSR pointer reset and begin
execution of the Venus 2 Science Mini-Sequence, 06/21, perform Flight
Software Partition Maintenance, 06/22, begin power-on of science
instruments, 06/23, set AACS Monitor Threshold Values for V2 flyby, update
Active Spacecraft IVP Vector, execution of science activities for VIMS,
MAG, RPWS, MIMI, CAPS, ISS, and UVIS, uplink Venus 2 playback
mini-sequence, SSR pointer reset, and High Water Mark clear all on
Thursday 06/24.

Cassini will begin orbiting Saturn on July 1, 2004, and release its piggybacked Huygens probe about six months later for descent through the thick atmosphere of the moon Titan. Cassini-Huygens is a cooperative mission of NASA, the European Space Agency and the Italian Space Agency. JPL, a division of the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, manages the mission for NASA's Office of Space Science, Washington, D.C.
