Drogue chute emerges from Genesis capsule

The lid of the descending Genesis sample return capsule pops off to allow the drogue parachute to emerge.

Drogue chute emerges

The Genesis sample return capsule, after separating from the spacecraft bus, will fall to Earth. About 2.2 minutes after entering the Earth's atmosphere, the lid of the capsule will pop off and release the drogue parachute approximately 30 km above the ground. The drogue chute will slow the descent of the capsule to allow safe deployment of the much larger parafoil chute almost 4 minutes later.
