Betty Bigney is an award-winning veteran teacher currently employed by Onslow County School District in North Carolina. In Betty's 43 years as an educator she has taught every grade level from kindergarten to graduate school in a wide variety of settings from inner city to small rural areas. She teaches math, science and social studies and is responsible for writing science curriculum for her school. Betty has taught science for Carnegie Science Center, Venango Museum, Penn State University, Meredith College, the North Carolina Teacher Academy and the Hawaii Department of Education. Betty was born and raised in Pennsylvania, but followed her dream of living by the sea and five years ago relocated to a small barrier island off the coast of North Carolina. She now resides on Topsail Island with her sheepdog, Murphy. When not working, Betty enjoys volunteering at the Sea Turtle Hospital, walking the beach, surfing and visits from her sons, grandchildren and friends.
