Touchdown Site
Date: 14 Feb 2001

This image shows the landing site for the NEAR Shoemaker spacecraft. It became the first spacecraft to land on an asteroid in 2001.

The touchdown site, shown above by the yellow circle, is on the edge of the large saddle shaped feature known as Himeros, and near the boundary between two distinct types of surface terrain.
