Strategies for eliciting student understanding of mathematical concepts that encourage the use of multiple modalities, learning methods and assessment tools. Objects that can be moved and rearranged and that require the processing and analysis of three-dimensional quantitative information are adviced. (ex. A student who is trying to convince a principal to install outdoor lighting on a cross country ski course calculates the number of watts used, converts that to the equivalent number of toasters and makes a bar graph showing additional examples of school lighting with toasters as the unit of electrical consumption.) |
