The image included with this activity was taken by the Mars Orbiter Camera (MOC), one of the three instruments aboard the Mars Global Surveyor (MGS) spacecraft. The goal of this activity is to give students practice analyzing actual data sets from Mars in order to determine the surface history of the planet.
