Rockets: #6 Newton Car
In this activity, students test a slingshot-like device that throws a mass, causing the car to move in the opposite direction. Students will investigate how increasing the mass of the object thrown from the Newton Car affects the acceleration over a rolling track (Newton's Second Law of Motion). Students will also vary the amount of force used to propel the object from the car and note its effect on the acceleration.
