In this activity students will learn how machines make our lives easier by multiplying the amount of force we can apply to a task. Students will lift objects with a lever, using weights to measure how much force is being applied. The students will directly experience mechanical advantage, the concept that, although the work done in moving the object is always the same, the amount of force required to move it can be drastically reduced using simple machines.
