Enter A Contest to Name the Astrobots!
Planetary Society
You can win a LEGO? Discovery Saturn V Moon Mission set by providing the winning names for the Astrobots on board the Mars Exploration Rover spacecraft!
Who are the Astrobots?
The Mars Exploration Rovers launch for Mars in May and June 2003! Onboard each rides a new breed of explorer and adventurer -- we like to call them Astrobots. These Astrobots need names, and that is where you can help.
The Astrobots are representations of LEGO minifigures suited up for space. They appear as part of the structure that mounts a mini-DVD onto each Mars Exploration Rover spacecraft. The Planetary Society provided the DVD to the mission to carry the names of 4 million people to the surface of Mars!
What will the Astrobots Do?
Once the spacecraft launch in May and June, the Astrobots will become mini-robot explorers who will send diaries of their adventures back to Earth. These regularly posted Web diaries will teach kids about Mars and the mission as the Astrobots explore the spacecraft and the surface of Mars. They will describe what they discover in personal and entertaining ways, and hopefully their saga will engage the world more deeply in the adventure of planetary exploration.
