Proteus Date: 26 Aug 1989 This image of Neptune's irregularly-shaped satellite Proteus (1989N1) taken by Voyager 2 shows a resolution of 8 kilometers (5 miles) per pixel. It was taken at a range of 870,000 kilometers (540,000 miles).
The moon is uniformly dark with an albedo of about 6 percent. The irregular shape suggests that Proteus has been cold and rigid throughout its history and subject to significant impact cratering.
