Moon Hop
Date: 17 Nov 1967

NASA's Surveyor 6 made the first successful liftoff from the surface of the moon, a key step in ensuring astronauts could safely return to Earth after a lunar landing.

The spacecraft's 2.5 m (eight foot) hop provided valuable information on rocket engine performance on the surface of the moon.
