Dick Tracy Investigates Ranger 6
Date: 2 Feb 1964

No one at NASA, JPL or RCA understood why the television cameras on Ranger 6 had failed to work. The mystery remained a topic of concern inside the project and out.

Cartoonist Chester Gould dispatched detective Dick Tracy and the mechanical genius Diet Smith to the moon's Sea of Tranquility in a "space coupe" to find the answer for themselves.

This cartoon, collected as part of NASA's history of the Ranger program, contains a note from JPL Ranger Project Manager James Burke to his colleague Harris Schurmeier.
