Surveyor Model 1
Surveyor Model 1 Mission to Our Solar System

Goals: NASA sent several model Surveyor spacecraft into space in order to test trajectories to the Moon for a future Moon landing. Surveyor Model 1 was one such test mission and its goal was to launch a lunar lander spacecraft into a barycentric orbit toward a simulated Moon.

Accomplishments: Surveyor Model 1 was successfully inserted on a simulated lunar trajectory so precise that it would have landed on the Moon without a trajectory correction on an actual mission.

Surveyor Model 1 was the second attempt to launch a dummy Surveyor lunar lander towards a simulated Moon.

The spacecraft reentered Earth's atmosphere after thirty-one days.
