Goals: Asiasat 3 was an accidental Moon mission. A communications satellite launched for China, a booster rocket malfuntion failed to put Asiasat 3 in a stable Earth orbit.
Accomplishments: Using techniques pioneered by space science missions, engineers sent the spacecraft on two flights around the Moon to put it into a stable orbit at Earth. It was the first time such a maneuver was performed by a commercial satellite. The spacecraft has since been bought and sold and renamed.
