Bio: |
Professor Melosh, University of Arizona, specializes in impact cratering, planetary tectonics, and the physics of earthquakes
and landslides. He is responsible for numerical simulations and models of the impact for the Deep Impact mission, and for the
analysis of the images of crater excavation. His is the author of more than 150 papers on various aspects of planetary science
and the book "Impact Cratering: A Geologic Process". He is the recipient of the Barringer Medal of the Meteoritical Society for
his work on the physics of impact, the Gilbert award of the Geological Society of America, and is a member of the US National
Academy of Sciences. He is a Fellow of the Meteoritical Society, AGU, GSA and AAAS. He has recently participated in the
creation of a web site for computing the effects of impacts on the Earth that can be found at
